JUBILEE YEAR 2020

In May 2020, it will be 50 years since the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB) was first established at the Jagiellonian University. The Institute formed part of what was then the Faculty of Biology and Earth Sciences and at the outset had only 5 Departments.

Thirty-two years later, the IMB was transformed into a faculty in its own right – the Faculty of Biotechnology. In 2006, in relation to a number of factors including the wider range of study programmes offered, the Faculty of Biotechnology changed its name to the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology (FBBB) and has since become known to the world of science in that form. Currently, the FBBB consists of 17 Departments, and employs over 250 people.

This milestone anniversary is a great opportunity to summarize the achievements of scientists from the IBM and the FBBB as part of jubilee events to mark 50 years of history of the Faculty of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University.
